Hello, my name is Aditya Parashar and I am a first year Computer Science student at UCL. As the Welfare Officer at UCLES, I will make sure that the society provides its members with a refreshing space where they can forget the pressure of university. I will aim at promoting mental wellbeing, collaboration between different student groups and a culture where we all learn from each other. I will act as the first point of contact for any student who wishes access to wellbeing services.
As the Welfare Officer, I will not only work on elevating mental health and wellbeing, but I will also assist members fulfil their career aspirations by acting as the Head of Mentorship. I have been working on the Mentorship programme as a First Year Representative and we were successful in guiding 27 students through internship applications. Several mentees also received offers from various companies, making the programme a success.
This year, I have started reaching out to industry professional already and plan to introduce the mentorship scheme to incoming UCL students during the summer. This way future society members will have someone to approach for career and academic advice and make the scheme an even greater success.
As your Welfare Officer, my goal is to allow UCLES to be a second home to all members. I will do my very best to make sure that every UCLES member will be provided with the utmost care and support - which all of you deserve!
University (especially as a first-year student) can be demanding, but through my position as a first-year representative at UCLES, I've discovered an inclusive and welcoming community that I'd like to endorse by taking on the Welfare Officer position.
With this, I aim to use my experience of being a member of previous mentorship programmes to tailor and enhance the Engineering Coalition Mentorship programme. Furthermore, I'd like to strengthen the well-being of UCLES society members with a focus on community, efficiency, innovation, opportunity, and empowerment, as well as serve as a communication touch-point for constructive feedback on any aspects of welfare that members believe can be improved inside the UCLES society.
In short, I believe I am competent to maintain UCLES as a society where everyone can continue to find support and feel like a part of a legacy in the making.
Hi, I am Jocelyn. Some of you may already know me from our course or other societies, but for those of you who don't, I am a second-year doing chemical engineering.
I am running for welfare officer mainly because I believe in the importance of mental health and the role a welfare officer can play in supporting students. We all know that engineering is a demanding course and we do need extra support sometimes to cope with all the stress and anxiety.
I have been a transition mentor this year and it made me realize how much I love supporting others and listening and signposting when people need me. I promise as a welfare officer I would be available as often as people need me and offer all the support I can.
