Last year, the domain of the entire society was transformed. It was a thrilling experience as the FYR for the engineering society, in the Engineering Alliance project. This was a very enriching journey and I was able to understand how the whole society is managed. It gave me a chance to expand the engineering network to other prestigious universities in the UK and set in motion various ideas and events that would involve them. As treasurer, I believe I can further the aims and ambitions of society and devote my focus to it.
The role of treasurer in society appeals to me for my financial background from high school and desire to pursue it in college as well. Along with working closely with the departments of the society, the main job is to handle the finances which is a major responsibility. I was the Charge d’Affaires in the Model United Nations in my high school- a role which entailed almost exactly this. I made budgets, spoke to companies for sponsorship contracts and allocated resources, logistical plans and funds to the different departments of the organisation. With experiences like this, I believe I have the knowledge and inherent capacity to manage a society of this scale; with me zeal for the role, I will acquire more traits required on the journey. I believe I’m built for this role, due to my experience in how society functions and how it could be made better from the successful year we’ve had and the time commitment I can devote to it in my years at college.
Hello!
I am Annie, a second year chemical engineering student. I believe I can further enhance my experience, and that of fellow engineering students and society members by becoming the UCLES treasurer.
The kind of treasurer I hope to be, is embodied by these skills:
- Someone who takes INITIATIVE
Actively participating and being committed to the work done, even if it is just filling in forms and writing emails!
- To be CREATIVE
Trying their best to organise things and fulfil every opportunity using their imagination, trying to save as much money whenever possible.
- Is INTUITIVE
Improvising on the spot to respond quickly to an issue or task at hand.
-Is INDEPENDENT
Can complete individual jobs as well as working with multiple teams.
-Always striving for PROGRESS
To give the committee feedback, support, and consul as well as to learn and grow as a person.
I think I reflect these qualities in my role as UCLES Welfare Officer and Marketing Exec this year, I was lead organiser of the Student Mentorship programme for engineering students across the faculty. We recruited mentors, mentees, plan sessions, report updates, etc. I learnt how to communicate with different people where everyone's objective is satisfied, it also granted me skills in organisation and ability to bear responsibilities.
I hope to build more memories with UCLES as the treasurer!
Thank you for reading my manifesto.
