As a society, UCLES achieved a lot in the previous year and I am honoured to have been a part of the same as a First Year Representative. With the introduction of various new initiatives, the previous year brought with itself a plethora of change. I was a First Year Representative within the Mentorship Programme and we were successful in guiding 27 students through internship applications. Several mentees also received offers from various companies, making the programme a success.

Taking a proactive approach by “Starting off Early” will be my main focus to expand on our initiatives. I have already started working on the same and my approach involves:

  1. Having reached out to industry professionals already, I will introduce the mentorship scheme to incoming UCL students during the summer. This way future society members will have someone to approach for career and academic advice and make the scheme an even greater success.
  2. Building better relationships within various Engineering departments and societies as part of the Engineering Coalition to benefit a wide spectrum of students.
  3. Organising social events with reputed UCL alumni on a frequent basis to enable collaborative networking.

I learned a lot by being a part of UCLES and believe it is my time to take on the responsibility. I value the learning outcomes and impact of an initiative more than anything else. I want to make UCLES a place where we all work together, learn together and grow together.

Shivansh Tibrewala

Last year, the domain of the entire society was transformed. It was a thrilling experience as the FYR for the engineering society, in the Engineering Alliance project. This was a very enriching journey and I was able to understand how the whole society is managed. It gave me a chance to expand the engineering network to other prestigious universities in the UK and also set in motion various ideas and events that would involve them. As president, I believe I can further the aims and ambitions of society and devote my focus to it.

I’ve had several opportunities to hold leadership positions from the captain of my basketball team in high school to the Head Boy and Charge d’Affaires of the Model United Nations too. These experiences have equipped me with the fundamental skills that will enable me to fulfil this role to its fullest capacity. I can manage the different projects, teams, and avenues of this society and do my best to help bring out the same in everyone. This is a role I decided I want to build myself for, even before coming to university. With your vote, I will have the chance to show why I deserve to be President of the largest STEM society in one of the most prestigious universities in the world.

Udaya Goel

Together I aim to strive for progress. As a first-year representative heading the UCLES Engineering week, I have closely worked with the team, and I am proud to mention that it was a success. My passion for engineering is highly driven by commitment, which I think is a valuable quality required in a president, and that is what I bring with me, along with strong interpersonal and analytical skills.

The sitting committee has worked very hard in the current tenure for the betterment of the society. I wish to carry the baton in the long run and make UCLES the biggest student-led society at UCL. To achieve this goal, I will be focusing on increasing student engagement. Looking at the success of the UCLES engineering week, I believe we should make it an annual event at UCL.

Holding the position of Student Ambassador for the Engineering Faculty, I have proved my approachability and eagerness to voice diverse opinions. As president, I will have a robust platform to remove barriers, and your opinions will never go unheard. This is your chance to take a step towards greater heights. Each vote will be a vote for the benefit of the society.

Having worked with the committee, I am now aware of society's immediate and long-term needs. Making me the most efficient candidate holding the values of productivity and diversity to overcome any issues we face over the coming year.
