Margaret (Mars) Cheung

Hi all, you can call me Mars! Throughout the past year I've been greatly involved in Drama Soc, having directed and written shows for both the PRIDE and New Writing Festival. This experience familiarized me with what happens behind the scenes, especially when managing creative projects. I also understand the needs of UCL's drama productions, and how to manage and meet the expectations of both the audience and the creatives working to put on a show.

If elected, I hope to create more opportunities for students to be involved, especially those from underrepresented communities in UCL. I propose the following:

  • More freshers events, especially a freshers' festival. As a fresher this year, the lack of events was quite disappointing and I want to create more opportunities for new students to be involved.
  • Bringing back the Reclamation BAME festival for POC creatives. Being a QPOC myself, I would love to see more POC students in the drama scene!
  • Workshops for students new to directing, producing and acting in theatre.

Aside from being involved in UCL, I was also the vice president of my high school's Drama Society, and held other leadership posts such as Debate Captain, which gave me a lot of experience being a leader and working with budgets. I have had such a wonderful year being in Drama Soc this year, having made many of my close friends here, and hope to make it as fun, welcoming and creative as possible next year!
