Law for All Society: Freshers' Representative

I’m standing to be the UCL Law For All Freshers Representative as I understand exactly how daunting it can be trying to get involved. I personally avoided societies in my first year because of how overwhelming it was and this is not what I want for others. I’d like to work within the society to increase outreach and target non law students earlier to help undergraduate students not only create a dependable network within our society but also to ensure an earlier exposure to great opportunities and the beginning of their potential journey into law! 

I’d like to listen to any concerns, recommendations from undergraduates in general and be an active part of positive change and growth within the Law for All society.

Hi everyone! My name is Lena, and I am a First Year International Social and Political Studies student. Though my course is quite interdisciplinary, I plan to pursue a career in law and am passionate about the idea that anyone from any background should be enabled to work in the legal sector. Because of this, I would love to contribute to LfA as Freshers’ Representative and represent the interests of First Years in the society!

In this role, I would like to contribute to the implementation of workshops geared towards aiding non-law students in writing compelling and successful applications for vacation schemes and other job opportunities. I would also advocate for socials in collaboration with other societies in similar sectors, such as the Diplomacy Society and International Relations Society to facilitate exchange between students with similar interests. Most importantly, as FYR, I will take students’ concerns and ideas into account and act in accordance with their wishes to create a vibrant and welcoming society!

I am standing for this position because I believe I am more than capable, and will be successful at bridging the gap between the society and first years, like myself.

I have good communication and social skills, essential to fulfilling the role as I can ensure I will relay information from the society to the students adequately.  Most importantly, as my role as a representative, I'd listen to student feedback and deliver it to the society, to ensure members' needs are met. I'd be a beneficial link between first years and the society, as I'd act as an effective platform to voice your opinion to. I will listen, and deliver action. As a confident person, I am able to do so as I am prepared to stand up to represent others' opinions. Working for student council, in my school, is an example of this, where I have effectively represented other students' interests. This included, building a prayer space, issues with school uniform, organising multiple events, and organising a prom.

Furthermore with a passion for law, I'd also present the best first year opportunities to like-minded individual members such as myself, to benefit applications for schemes, open days etc. Coming from a non-law background, I am understanding of the route into working in law, thus I will work for those with similar backgrounds and aspirations.

Generally, as a person, I am disciplined and organised - so I can manage the workload of the role on top of my studies, and deal with it, with full efforts.
