Lincoln Cheng

As a penultimate year PPE with Data Science student, and  a strong passion for current affairs, policymaking and I believe I can help advance the Society's mission.

Over the past two years, I have served as VP for three societies as well as the UCL United Nations Association, where I gained experiences in societal organisations, managing teams and planning major conferences and collaborating across campus.

Notably for the UN Association, I coordinated seminars with high-level speakers in politics and international relations, and was one of the organisers for a 175 people conference hosting delegates from across the globe.

If selected, I will focus on:

  • Expanding our speaker series by securing current and former policymakers as well as thought leaders to engage in discussions.
  • Hosting panels and research projects on priority global and domestic issues to facilitate meaningful discussion.
  • Providing career advising and internship connections in the public and third sectors.
  • Increasing our online presence to engage the wider community in political discourse.
Manon Ring

Hi everyone! I'm Manon and I’m thrilled to be running for VP! I’m a second-year Politics & Sociology student at SSEES and I’m deeply fascinated by the ever-evolving landscape of politics and the impact of governmental policies worldwide, hence my motivation to actively take part in this society! If appointed VP, my priorities will be:

  • Diverse discussions: Develop a safe platform for political discussion that is politically neutral, non-aligned, and non-region-centric
  • Inclusive community: welcome students from all backgrounds, listen and respond to the needs of the society, foster internationalism and inclusivity
  • Collaborative Events: Collaborate with other UCL societies to host joint events, encouraging interdisciplinary understanding of politics.

Thanks to previous internships and extra-curricular activities, I believe I have developed a strong set of abilities necessary for this role: I own solid administrative and communication skills, and doing ballet at a National level developed my pragmatism and meticulousness. Allying this practice with IB training provided me with a solid work capacity while actively participating in numerous international MUNs developed my problem-solving and leadership skills.

Wishing to push the society in the right direction and continue the amazing work done by the current committee, I would be very eager to take on the role of VP. I look forward to bringing my passion and expertise to this exciting role!

Ruiwen Zhang

Hi everyone, I'm Ruiwen. I'm thrilled to announce my candidacy for Vice President of the UCL Government and Politics Society! As someone deeply immersed in Economics, Politics and finance both at UCL and outside, I believe I can bring a fresh perspective to our society.

Why am I running? It's simple. I have a strong sense of public service and public duty and I'm passionate about blending academic insights with real-world applications, especially in the realms of global finance and public policy; I'd like to share my academic experience and work experience in both the public and private sectors.

Inclusivity is key in my vision for UCLGPS. No matter your study background, I'm committed to ensuring everyone finds their place and can contribute meaningfully.

Another focus will be to strengthen our connections with industry professionals. Imagine gaining insights directly from experts, giving us a head start in our future careers.

Let's make UCLGPS a hub for future leaders, a place where we're not just learning but actively shaping our understanding of the field.

Your support means we can take UCLGPS to new heights. Let's do this!

Matthieu Dinh

I must not be the only one who thinks that we live in truly interesting times! From the pandemic, to political instability, and conflict around the world there is most certainly no shortage of all things politics to talk about.

Unfortunately, this society has become inactive over the years, which is very much a shame in the current context in which a platform for political discussion would be valuable.

As Vice-President I will work alongside the President to relaunch the Government and Politics Society, building it up to once again be an essential platform for political discussion that is globally inclusive and politically neutral.
