My experience with managing golf societies was during my 4-year period as the Founder and Captain of my high school golf team. In charge of promoting golf to students across the school, I grew the club from 4 to more than 30 members over two school terms. I took the annual inter-secondary national tournament seriously. To provide the members with practice grounds, a tough negotiation with the Hong Kong Golf Club was made. A challenge I faced here was dealing with the elitism and bureaucracy of the club. As an outsider of the club, communicating with the committee and the office was met with plenty of negligence. Golf Club members were hesitant to allow us youngsters at the club. My team and I overcame this by talking to the office in person. Promising to ensure strict etiquette standards, I secured 5 sponsored weekly tee times. As Captain, I also liaised with nearby facilities to obtain coaching sessions. I found communication with parties to be my strength. I also hosted my own strategy seminars. As a team, our school secured 3rd place against all other schools.

Currently a trainee of the Hong Kong Professional Golf Association, I am on a mission to encourage more young people to become golfers by breaking the old-age stereotype associated with the sport. My experience in obtaining sponsorships, sports promotion and managing golf socials and competitive teams, makes me fit for the Outreach Officer role. With your vote of confidence, I will make a contribution to UCL Golf.
