Starting golf last year, my status as a fellow novice offers a unique advantage as Outreach Officer. Empathising with the challenges new players face, I aim to promote open communication, ensuring that beginners’ concerns are heard and addressed.
Embracing the holistic interpretation of "outreach," my vision extends beyond external sponsorships but to internal efforts to connect novices and experienced golfers. Breaking the barriers between members would allow insights and camaraderie to flow freely. This would enhance the experience of all players and promoting a platform where experienced players can share their insights while contributing to and networking with the growing community of golfers in UCL.
My experience in securing substantial sponsorships for other student bodies attests to my capabilities. While the context may differ, the skills I've honed in identifying and negotiating with large sponsors are highly transferable, and position me as a reliable asset for the Society.
Being a law student further fortifies my candidacy. My familiarity with deciphering the intricacies of documents, and the fact that I have to read fine print for a living soon (hopefully), ensures a meticulous approach to the role.
To conclude, my candidacy is grounded in a genuine passion (not ability unfortunately) for golf, prioritisation of community, and prior experience securing sponsorships. Eager to contribute to the Society’s growth, I aim to create a vibrant environment for all players.
With a passion for sports and a background in organizing events and campaigns, I am eager to bring my experience to the UCL Golf Society as the Outreach Officer. Having delved into golf tournament planning in Saudi Arabia, I understand the significance of promoting the sport and creating enjoyable experiences. From coaching the Saudi Beach Volleyball Special Olympics team to collaborating with key stakeholders on large-scale events, my diverse work background equips me to seamlessly transition into this role. I am committed to leveraging my skills to expand the society and secure valuable external support as needed. It would be quite exciting to contribute to the society's success and I look forward to joining the society's dynamic team!
My experience with managing golf societies was during my 4-year period as the Founder and Captain of my high school golf team. In charge of promoting golf to students across the school, I grew the club from 4 to more than 30 members over two school terms. I took the annual inter-secondary national tournament seriously. To provide the members with practice grounds, a tough negotiation with the Hong Kong Golf Club was made. A challenge I faced here was dealing with the elitism and bureaucracy of the club. As an outsider of the club, communicating with the committee and the office was met with plenty of negligence. Golf Club members were hesitant to allow us youngsters at the club. My team and I overcame this by talking to the office in person. Promising to ensure strict etiquette standards, I secured 5 sponsored weekly tee times. As Captain, I also liaised with nearby facilities to obtain coaching sessions. I found communication with parties to be my strength. I also hosted my own strategy seminars. As a team, our school secured 3rd place against all other schools.
Currently a trainee of the Hong Kong Professional Golf Association, I am on a mission to encourage more young people to become golfers by breaking the old-age stereotype associated with the sport. My experience in obtaining sponsorships, sports promotion and managing golf socials and competitive teams, makes me fit for the Outreach Officer role. With your vote of confidence, I will make a contribution to UCL Golf.
