Sophie Oyesola

Volunteering in Rwanda and witnessing healthcare disparities inspired my journey to medical school and fuels my passion for global health initiatives, such as UCL Students for Global Health Society. My experience with the Rani Rawji Studentship provided valuable insights into the research world, including networking with supervisors and researchers, and presenting at a national Pathology conference. I would love the opportunity as Welfare Officer to leverage my experience to support students in global health understanding and research. Additionally, being a mentee in the UCL Women in Surgery Mentorship programme, as well as my role as a Wellbeing Prefect in sixth form, where I coordinated a mentorship programme between Year 7 and Year 13 students, demonstrate my capability in coordinating a mentorship scheme that will benefit SfGH society members. As Welfare Officer, I am determined to make sure that UCL SfGH is a safe and welcoming space for all to get to know each other and discuss global health topics.

Hi everyone!!! My name is Sasha, I’m a third-year student studying Arts & Sciences with a focus on Psychology and Migration Studies. I am also half Peruvian/half British but lived in Germany my whole life. I would love to be Welfare Officer this year! <3

After volunteering in a refugee shelter full-time for a year in Germany working as a kindergarten teacher, I became interested in global health concerns and in particular, mental health and migrant mental health. I hope to translate these interests and values learned to appropriately manage welfare concerns in our society. I hope to create a welcoming and inclusive environment where everyone feels comfortable and content. With a background in Psychology, I am well-informed on welfare concerns and want everyone to feel that they can always come to me with any problem.

Thank you for your support, I am excited about the journey that lies ahead and meeting all of you!
