Candidates

Margaret (Mars) Cheung (They/them)
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

Having previously been Treasurer of Drama Society (2022-2023), I executive produced and oversaw all financial commitments and planning for 5+ small shows during that year. Since 2021, I've been actively involved in an array of societies in the arts, directing and writing shows in Drama Society (including small show Lilies in Decemver), assistant directed for Film Society, and performed in Live Music, Musical Theatre and Kpop Societies. My long-time commitment to the arts and my experience, along with deep understanding of the arts scene makes me an ideal candidate for the position.

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

Having started artsUCL as a fresher with minimal experience, I hope to create an environment as inclusive and welcoming as the one I’ve first stepped into. Here are my goals if elected

  1. Lowering the barrier of entry by encouraging workshops and classes, and fresher and beginner-friendly events in societies
  2. Increasing diversity and inclusion in creative spaces, as diversity in the arts translates to a wider range of stories being told
  3. Further external outreach for professional opportunities for student creatives, as I believe the level of talent showcased could be better advertised.
Please summarise why students should vote for you.

artsUCL has been a highly integral part of my student life, and I hope to give back in an official capacity. Having recieved the Diversity Award for Societies for the 2023 Arts Awards Stage for Drama Soc, I would like to continue striving for diversity in the arts.As a former committee member and student representative, not only do I have the necessary experience for the role, I’m also used to liaising between and with the SU and societies. Being passionate and committed, I would use these qualities towards ensuring that artsUCL would be even more inclusive and welcoming to students,
