We're already halfway through the academic year (we're shook) but this shouldn’t stop you from getting involved in all the wonderful opportunities that we have on offer. There's no "right" time to start volunteering - you just gotta go for it! Whether you’ve never volunteered before, or you’re a seasoned volunteer veteran, this article will provide you with all the great ways you can make 2020 the best year yet!

Kicking off the start of term 1 with our welcome fairs in October, we had just under 2500 students sign up with our wonderful and diverse charity partners. If you want a recap, here’s our fairs article. And if you’re feeling some fair-FOMO, don’t worry, we still have our New Year Fair on 21 January, where you’ll get to meet over fifty of our community partners and projects!

If you couldn’t make any of the fairs this year, we've luckily got our super handy and easy-to-use volunteering directory, where you can browse all our latest volunteering opportunities to your heart’s content! You can filter by category and commitment to tailor your volunteering to your schedule and interests.

And if you thought that finding volunteering opportunities couldn't get any easier, you thought wrong! If you want weekly updates of the latest opportunities, sign up to our mailing list to receive our newsletter every Monday. If you’re on the lookout for specific volunteering roles, you can also choose which areas of volunteering roles you want to receive and we'll send you the occasional newsletter with opportunities we think you'd love.

We have many ongoing roles, so you can regularly volunteer with an organisation of your choice. If you want to get a feel for what it’s like, read PhD student Lavanya's article on volunteering with North London Cares.

If you have a super-busy schedule, or just want to try out different things, we recommend you check out our One-Off Volunteering programme. It’s super easy to sign up, take part and get stuck in with some really fun events. You can also read Bixue’s article on her experience volunteering at a one-off last December for some inspo to get volunteering.

If there’s a cause that you’re passionate about, why not get your ideas off the ground with our Student-Led Volunteering programme? You can read what Seren, project leader for Disruptista, said about how she got inspired to cultivate her own local community project. If you want to put your ideas into action, make sure you get in touch with us!

The new year means new beginnings, so why don’t you seize all the amazing opportunities that 2020 has in store for you? And if you have any questions on volunteering or want help on where to start, drop us an email at [email protected]
