The Sex and Relationships Edition
WHAT DO WE DO?
ALL THE STUFF YOUR AWKWARD GEOGRAPHY TEACHER COULD NEVER GET QUITE RIGHT IN FIFTH-PERIOD SRE CLASSES.
RE-CRAFTED WITH THE GENUINE INSIGHTS, IDEAS AND EXPERIENCES OF YOUNG PEOPLE.
IT'S OUR SEX EDUCATION REWRITTEN AND REVISED TO FIT THE REAL WORLD.
NOT A CONDOM-COVERED BANANA IN SIGHT.
The quietness in classrooms doesn't protect young people from the realities of the often nasty outside world, it only prevents us from having the language to identify our experiences within it. It prevents us from having safe spaces to confide, from knowing others like us exist, from learning extended empathy and social awareness. There weren't enough creative and influential platforms for young people to voice our opinions, ask our questions and share our experiences... so we started b.zine to fill the void.
Through creative zine-making workshops, we’re handing ourselves the mic to spotlight young people’s experiences and ideas on some of the most socially avoided but important topics. The first edition of b.zine will delve into the complexities of sex and relationships education:
gender virginity pleasure porn literacy contraception communication queer sex periods digitalised sex consent sexuality masturbation sexual violence pregnancy anatomy ...
b.zine volunteers will be working with small groups of 16-18 year old students to build a project completely centred around young voices, filled with OUR thoughts and feelings on the subjects that the gRowN people are too scared to talk to us about...
If you’re curious, rebellious and devoted to social change WE WANT YOU WITH B.ZINE. COME & PUT SOME SPOTLIGHTS IN THE RIGHT SPOTS.
What is a zine though?
It's a small, self-published, kinda informal collection of independent texts, images, ideas, doodles...all put together to create a little photo-copiable booklet ready for big scale cheap distribution.
They can look something like this (but can really be absolutely anything we want them to be):
