Iheanyichukwu is studying for an MSc in Systems Engineering Management, and took part in the VSU’s Halls of Residence Volunteering Initiative. He told us about his experiences.

What do you do as a volunteer?
I worked with a group of volunteers from UCL and Hawkridge House (Vianet Salazar, Christian Zagaceta, Sheba Ologure and Gurpriya Bhatia – all MSc students) to provide Basic IT and Computer Literacy training for residents of the St Mungos home at Endsleigh Garden.

What’s the best thing about volunteering?
The best thing about volunteering is the joy we put on the faces of people when we get them see the amazing things they can do which they never thought they could do. There is so much excitement in helping other achieve a lot.

What difference do you feel you’ve made by volunteering?
We were able to give opportunity to those who may not have had that normally to acquire some IT/Computer skills that would definitely help them in many ways than one.

How have you fitted in your role around your studies?
The work was scheduled to suit our various study timetables and we did our best to manage such. It got a bit tough as we progressed with increasing school work but the joy we derived from volunteering far overshadowed the tough times
