Wasifa Khalid

Hi! I am Wasifa – a 1st year MBBS student. I have been the Medical Officer for DRS since November 2022 and I want to remain part of the committee and continue my role.

My role has largely consisted of communicating with healthcare professionals to engage and request them to speak about their insights on dementia.

Me experiences as the Medical Officer so far:

• I learnt that members are not just interested in how dementia is clinically relevant but also how it fits in with different fields such as the law, palliative care, research etc
• I have gained the interest of many potential speakers for our upcoming big March event
• I improved my communication and teamworking skills both by interacting with speakers and by ensuring the committee is up-to-date with my progress  

How I will continue bringing change to DRS:

• I will ensure that I build the society’s network by reaching out to more potential speakers and will work towards increasing the amount of interested speakers, and therefore events the society holds in the 2023-2024 academic year

For how common dementia is, I do not believe there is enough awareness. I am intrigued by dementia through my studies and by seeing its impact first-hand at the care home I volunteer at. I would like to remain as the Medical Office for DRS so that I can contribute to its aims of raising awareness, and learn more about dementia myself.
