Election post
Hi! I’m Cheryl and I’m running for the position of Welfare Officer. It will soon be my 2nd year in Jazz Society, and the inclusivity of the society’s activities (that is playing in bands! despite me being relatively new to jazz) has really made me feel at home; this inspired me to want to ensure this goes on for all members, new and current. I hope to create a safe space within the community, and be someone you can always talk to.
I’m a good listener, and everything you tell me would be confidential. I was also the Transition Mentor for my department, so I have pretty comprehensive knowledge on looking after your wellbeing (including the support available from UCL too).
If elected, I would like to:
1. Set up a Padlet board. Here I would open columns representing different topics (e.g. themes you want to see at events) where you can anonymously leave suggestions. There will also be a Q&A column, ready to accept any welfare questions/concerns and give advice that you might need. I will also regularly update the board with positive messages, and the different ways you can contact me will always be there.
2. Host Welfare Coffee Hours, where we could speak directly, either in-person or through a call.
3. Ensure accessibility and inclusivity of the society’s activities so that everyone can have a good time!
My motto for this role would undoubtedly be: When in doubt, please talk to me about it :)
Thank you for your consideration!
