Election post
Hi! I’m Haruna, a 2nd year Psychology student and I’m running to be the vice president. I’m standing for this role because I want to help reduce inequalities for children all over the world and I believe that UNICEF is at the forefront of making this change.
Throughout high school, I was involved in service groups that helped the orphans in the local area. This opened my eyes to the immense privilege I have and it fueled my desire to give back to the less fortunate communities. This passion grew as I learned that children’s rights are often neglected, even though protecting them is essential to a fairer world.
Through my past experiences, I believe I have developed the necessary skill set for this role:
- Organization, communication, and leadership - Hosted a 24hr running marathon which involved 44 participants and raised over £1500 for 3 charities
- Problem-solving, teamwork, and empathy - Hosted 4 annual Christmas parties for 2 local orphanages
- Working towards human rights - Team leader of AIESEC, an organization that provides volunteering projects that tackles the UN's SDGs
- Working with youths - Tutoring, summer school assistant, and volunteering with orphans
As the vice president, I hope to not only foster my passion for protecting and improving children’s rights but also to inspire other like-minded individuals.
