Election post
I am running for a committee position because I want to become as involved in the hockey club as possible. Hockey gives everyone the opportunity to meet new people and events to look forward to each week. However, it is harder for some to integrate than others, especially for new members of the club. An inclusive setting is so important for a society, and I would like to create an environment where everyone feels comfortable to be themselves, but also to approach me to discuss any of their concerns.
As welfare sec, I want to make the transition from school to university as easy as possible for the freshers. It is extremely daunting trying to make friends and fit into a new environment, and as someone who has recently come straight to university from school, I can relate to the worries and stresses of a first year student. I will make every effort to make myself known to all the new members of the society and taking the time to check up on anyone who has any issues.
I would like to organise more events at the start of the year to get freshers involved straight away. This may include more fresher socials, and more interaction between the hockey families so it gives new members the opportunity to meet the wider club.
I also want to ensure that not only the freshers, but all members are enjoying the society, and that if they do have any concerns regarding the hockey, socials, or anything outside of the club then they can access support in person, or online anonymously.
