Election post
I am very passionate about equity. Being a first generation myself, I appreciate the barriers we face in our daily lives, from getting opportunities in our professional lives to feeling out of place once we do get them.
I have experience in widening participation work through my past activities:
- help organising events for The Medic Lift, a platform where we host free events for medicine applicants from disadvantaged backgrounds
- elected as Events officer for Widening Participation Medics Network UCL
- started a platform called ‘Koffee & Kaburulu’ for the minority Telugu-speaking students to meet and connect over our unique shared experiences
- part of the Circl programme, a platform where we coach fellow WP students
If elected as Events Executive, I hope to do the following for the society:
- create a safe space where students can regularly come to discuss their issues and worries so they don’t feel alone in their experiences
- host professional, support-oriented and social events by working with the welfare and marketing officers
- create a forum for students to anonymously submit their concerns so we can guide them to appropriate places
- collaborate with other societies such as communication society to encourage key skills such as public speaking and confidence
- make students aware of external opportunities catered to them such as speaker events, internships, workshops
