Ruiwen Zhang

Hi guys, I’m Ruiwen. I have a deep passion for econ & finance and if elected, will leverage my experience and connections to help all fellow students have a good experience and gain something. My priorities are simple:

  1. Improve safety and overhaul the complaints procedure: external handling, reform punishment system, an independently commissioned report at the end of the year to measure progress
  2. Organise events with other unis, visits to major locations such as the London Stock Exchange, and meetings with prominent figures from world leaders to Nobel laureates and CEOs of top conglomerates–I have experience having led societies before and organised such events
  3. Organise networking and career events with major firms and leaders, help members access placements, career prep workshops (incl spring & summer) and a regular newsletter
  4. More funding and partnerships
  5. Create new committee positions, such as outreach and diversity, VPs for Fintech,Environment & Green Policy, VC, Startups, Asia Committee, Europe Committee
  6. Rules allowing, Organise socials and parties at cool venues, not just clubs but also on the river or in the Shard, as well as Cheese & Wine events to discuss econ and finance and network. I also aim to organise balls and trips soon. All as cheap & safe as possible!

All in all, I’m deeply passionate, I believe many of you are too, so let's help bring in new values for a fresh start to EFS 2.0, together! See efsrz.co

Oliver Turton

Hi everyone, I’m Oli, a first year Economics student running for president of EFS.

I want to be an active part of the success and growth of EFS this year. Having chaired my school’s Economics Society for two years and spent time over the pandemic completing virtual internships with Goldman Sachs and KPMG, I’m confident that I can bring together all the skills needed for our senior committee to smash the next year in EFS.

Some of my main plans are:

  • Collaborate with neighbouring Economics Societies (LSE, Royal Economics Society) to pool budgets for bigger events and to attract higher profile speakers to academic seminars. This partnership between universities will also open the possibility for a league of fun inter-society competitions.
  • Hosting regular skills sessions and career workshops: CV masterclasses, aptitude test practice and interview skills classes - ensuring students are in the best possible position when applying for spring and summer internship schemes in any division going forward.
  • More socials, cheaper tickets. The best way of growing EFS and making it more inclusive to students from any degree is by making the social events side of the society more regular and well-known across the whole of UCL.

If this all sounds great, I’d love to count on your vote for president!

Feel free to drop me an email with any questions at [email protected]

Hwee Ru Kom

Hello! My name is Hwee and I’m currently the treasurer of EFS. My value proposition to you is simple: make EFS great again. I am running for President in order to fulfil the major aim of becoming an inclusive society that brings values to its members.

My relevant experiences include:

  • Shadowing the current EFS President and participating in facilitation of EFS events and budget approval
  • Aiding in mentor recruitment and research organisation for one of UK’s largest student consultancies
  • Heading a national athlete commission, passing and drafting initiatives for athlete development

I have a clear view of the internal structure of EFS and a vision for its future, supporting my intention to give 110% to running EFS.  As your President, I plan to:

  • Initiate collaboration with other existing societies— there’s no point in competition between UCL societies. I believe in mutual cooperation.
  • Improve support for finance-alternative events— to be inclusive of everyone who want to explore start-up culture, entrepreneurship, consulting and other areas.
  • Intensify efforts in skill development— there’s two sides to the career game: skills and knowledge. EFS will aim to serve its members by providing resources, workshops and exclusive events.
  • Facilitate a safe, inclusive and collaborative environment for all members— every member will have equality of opportunity and a right to feel safe.

Thank you for your time and consideration!
