My name is Lucy and I’m a first year history student! I am running for Events Officer for the Canadian society because I want to plan engaging events for Canadians and people interested in Canada. As an international student, I understand the value of spending time with people from your home country, but also of sharing your culture with others. Being Canadian means different things to everyone, so whether you like playing sports, eating maple candy, or watching Canadian actors, I promise to plan something that will bring Canada to UCL!

I have significant event planning experience through my involvement with councils for both my high school, and local and provincial level Girl Guides. These councils gave me the opportunity to plan several successful events, including crepe breakfasts and camps. My positions also consisted of speaking to students or Girl Guides, so that their concerns could be raised with the council. I have experience with UCL committees through my role of Welfare Officer for the Medieval Society, which I began in fall 2021. Through these different roles, I have developed crucial leadership, teamwork, and collaboration skills. If elected, I will use my skills to plan exciting events, but also to make sure our members’ voices are heard by the committee.

I believe that my previous experience and my enthusiasm for Canadian culture make me an excellent candidate for the role of Canadian Society Events Officer. I am very excited to get involved!
