As a novice rower, what keeps me committed to UCLBC is truly the amazing people I’ve met, who support and lift each other up. I aim to give back to our amazing community by forging a caring and tight-knit identity for current and future members. As the first point of contact for any member struggling with issues, I would like to increase the accessibility of welfare services by setting up a one-stop online form for easier contact. This way, I would be able to systematically oversee an keep in touch with members who need support. As awareness is the first step to action, I will also frequently attend land & water trainings to meet members and share more about my role in supporting them during their time in UCLBC. Having been president of my high school’s choir previously, I am familiar with the demands of leadership and taking on responsibility for a large group. As a psychology undergraduate, I am also better equipped to support and direct members to the appropriate services. I also want to make our boathouse a more welcoming and well-stocked space so that we can fully enjoy our water sessions. There will be a steady supply of snacks and hot drinks plus an emergency stash of dry socks for anyone’s water-logged wellies, so no one ever has to take the train with cold feet again! Thank you for reading and I hope to be your next Welfare Officer soon!
