Election post
I joined UCLBC this year having never done rowing before, and I could not recommend it enough! I hope to impart my passion and love for the sport to incoming novices through the role of Novice Women’s Captain.
As NW Captain, I would hold an “Introduction to Rowing” session to introduce the committee, coaches, and highlight key rowing terms and techniques. In terms of training sessions, I aim to find a system whereby last minute changes are as minimal as possible, and let rowers know of the training schedules and races as far in advance as possible. I would further hold team bonding activities outside of training, such as yoga and mindfulness sessions. One thing I really enjoyed this year was the indoor rowing championships. I plan to hold these twice a term, with the main idea of them being fun and light-hearted.
More broadly, I would love to build cohesion between the NW and NM squads, as well as between the novice and senior squads, to increase the sense of inclusion within the society.
I believe my experience as a leader and team player would be valuable for the role of NW Captain- as the President of my departmental Ball Committee, I have the responsibility of leading a team and delegating tasks based on people’s key strengths, something that is transferrable to both leading the NW squad and being part of the Boat Club committee. I am a strong team player and believe I can make valuable contributions to ensure the success of the squad and club!
