Yesha Ravani

Hi everyone! My name is Yesha and I am deaf myself. I’m looking forward to being a deaf awareness officer again as I have thoroughly enjoyed leading workshops throughout the year. My aim continues to be to educate people about which assumptions to avoid about the deaf community and to teach the basics in British Sign Language. The people who have attended the workshops seems to be very engaged and interested and I hope to continue this next year! 

As a deaf person in a predominantly hearing environment, it can be very hard to navigate and break down communication barriers in all settings e.g. work, school, restaurants, shops etc. As a result, it can be tiring for us trying to adapt to the hearing environment on a daily basis. Therefore, by educating a small percentage of the hearing community, it would make a world of a difference for us as we are able to meet halfway and connect on a deeper level :)
