Members of the UCL Space Society, I am excited to present myself as a candidate for the role of Communications Officer, driven by a profound passion for space exploration and a commitment to fostering a dynamic and engaging community. My experience as the General Secretary of UCL BioSoc has provided me with skills in creating a compelling online presence, serving as a reliable point of contact for members, and managing a vibrant and informative website. During my tenure as the General Secretary, I successfully cultivated a strong online presence on various social media platforms, namely Discord and Instagram effectively amplifying the society's voice and engaging a diverse community of biology enthusiasts. I have also honed my interpersonal skills and developed a keen understanding of the importance of fostering a supportive and inclusive community. I am committed to ensuring that every member's voice is heard and valued, fostering an environment of open communication and collaboration within our society. As a student of biology with a keen interest in astro-microbiology (Favourite film is ‘Life’, and working as an actor-microbiologist is a major career goal; yes I am aware of the killer alien) I am acutely aware of the pivotal role that space exploration plays in advancing our understanding of life beyond Earth. I am eager to channel this enthusiasm into our society's communication efforts, and even organizing such events on the same. Thank you for considering my candidacy.
I am nominating myself for the role of communications officer for Space Society, as I am incredibly passionate about space and would love to allow more people to understand the wonders of it.
In the past, I've made a documentary on the collision of a neutron star and black hole for my EPQ. For the purpose of it, I had to do a lot of research as well as communicating with experts in the field. I also presented the documentary to many members of the public, in hopes of increasing public awareness on the field of space and the cosmos. The feedback was extremely positive and I managed to attain top marks as a result.
I believe this experience has provided me with many valuable skills, such as: public speaking, presenting, use of engaging language, video and image editing. Hence, I am confident that I can provide many benefits and high-quality work as a communications officer for Space Society.
Furthermore, I believe that this position will help me further hone my skills for future purposes. Since I am hoping to work within research on this field, I can obtain crucial experience whilst working as this role.
Thank you for reading.
