Hi Everyone!

I am Ida (ee-da) and I have been your sign language Intermin President since August this year (8/2022).

I'm a BASc student, and I was a sign language society freshers rep last year, then was elected as Welfare Officer at the end of that year. It then turned out that with the previous president graduating, we do not have anyone to fill the role and I gladly (albeit a little intimidated) took over as Intermin president. I then completed all the relevant training, found a qualified BSL teacher, and also found a community with the rest of the committee and members doing something completely new to me: leading a society.

I hope that as a current member you have enjoyed the way I've been running the society, or felt comfortable to give feedback, by voting you're showing me support that I'll really appreciate. I hope you allow me to continue doing this work (whether its room bookings or reaching out to collab, a lot happens behind the scenes), as well as letting us realise all the plans I've made for the rest of the year.

This year the society has been most active since covid, seen as we've stepped up from one BSL lesson a week to three! I am really grateful to be part of this growth (and to you guys for interest!).

It has been a journey for me, but I really hope this isn't the end quite yet, with a movie night, ASL taster, and Deaf Awareness workshop planned this month, one way or another, I'll see you then! ???
