Election post
I am passionate about ensuring that equity is achieved in ALL aspects of our RUMS community. As an Indian female from a state school background, I understand first hand the difficulties that are faced by minority ethnics, females and those from a widening participation background. Although I am excited to be a representative for the communities I am a part of, there are many more demographics that are underrepresented in RUMS and the introduction of this role will be monumental for real changes to occur.
Firstly, to really ensure that this role is fulfilled, I will arrange fortnightly meetings with members of the core RUMS Committee as a way to ensure that any changes are made and regular updates are given to the appropriate committee so that they can trust that things are actually getting underway.
As a current member of the EDI Gender Equality committee, I have experience working on equity. I am also a member of RUMS Events subcommittee where I have gained experience in making RUMS as inclusive as possible socially, as well as understanding how to engage with people, which is important for this role, for example, through social media.
I also want to work closer with the various communities that I am not a part of to create set action plans on how to improve awareness of the various issues their communities face, especially in medicine. To do this I will have meetings with the chairs of these committees so that I fully grasp what changes and additions they want.
