Election post
The fact that we do not have a music department here at UCL means that it is crucial to have a thriving extra-curricular musical scene. I want to push for music to be a more valued and integral part of the community as a whole, and work hard to make sure music society is the best it can possibly be.
Like many others, I feel music is my safe place, unifying individual expression with working together with other like-minded people which is brilliant for mental health and wellbeing; I am extremely passionate about the importance of music making. I am primarily a singer but also an instrumentalist, so am focused on all of the ensembles in the society. I'm currently in Symphony Chorus, Chamber Choir and UC8.
My key aims:
- Gather feedback from music society members, particularly freshers, and report to the committee.
- Help organise musical and non-musical events.
- Music is for everyone, see increased number of minority students in music society.
- Endevour to increase funding for next year.
- Build connections with local venues for more performance opportunities for everyone.
I hope that I have demonstrated my commitment to the society well, and that you'll consider voting for me as 2023 music society freshers' representative. All the best, - Sam.
