My interest in feminism is wide and in my own degree I have explored it from various perspectives including psychological, political and socioeconomic. Particularly, intersectionality is something I am doing a lot of research on in my modules. Thus, a position which oversees a range of subjects and tasks  in the society interests me most. Moreover, it would allow me use my research and theories for real application. I hope this will be beneficial for our society as a whole but also personally I would love to see how my studies and actions as a feminist can evolve, especially when brought together with the experiences and knowledge of our other members. Previously I was the head of my Fem Society at my sixth form school. I encouraged a lot of participation and will strive to do so for this society aswell - I'm hoping my networking skills, which I developed from many career meetings, will finally pay off here. The biggest challenge I have faced and we will all likely face in the future is turning our feminist ideas and passions into tangible results that are visible in the real world. Hence, my first goal as vice president would be to help tailor our sessions based on the individual and collective aims of our members (which is necessary when a society has such a large scope). Only in this way can we hope to take small but significant steps to make real change first within our university and later the world.

Tilly S R Christopher-Waite

Hi all!

I'm Tilly and I'd really like to become your next vice president of the female lead. I'm really interested in revitalising this society and giving it a more prominent role within the SU. I have several new ideas about how the society should be run, including making more socials like the tote bag social and hosting debates around topics we pick.

These kinds of socials would be really beneficial to raising awareness of key feminist issues and understanding how we can incorporate these ideas into the way we conduct ourselves as a society.

Our newsletter is still in the process of being developed and I'm keen to get us moving with this by working alongside our president Shua. I think this could be central to the way the society is organised, being a great tool of inclusion to all our members. It will have sections such as female news, where hot topics from across the world involving women will be discussed. Local news of women in leadership roles will also be included to develop ideas about role models for female UCL students looking into careers in a range of industries.

Other important sections of the newsletter will allow us to include sections of female artistry and writing. Aspects of this can feed into more socials that we do as a society, where the poetry, writing and art of our members can have a special feature on our newsletter.

By running this, I feel the society will become a better and more well-rounded environment.

Thank you and please vote for me!

Devangana Prasad

Growing up at an all-girls boarding school my whole life and having occupied key leadership positions there, I’m quite familiar with working for and with women from diverse backgrounds and age groups. Advocating for women’s rights is a passion of mine and pervades almost every sphere of my activities – from outright advocacy to daily conversations. I want to take this passion a step further by joining the ranks of leaders at the Female Lead Society and giving women’s activism a new direction by combining the founding principles of the society with each member’s unique experiences. As the Vice-President of the society, I wish to increase collaborations with The Female Lead parent organization, hold intimate round-table interview sessions with influential women leaders of today, and introduce panel discussions on key topics with each panelist representing a different aspect of intersectionality. I aim to increase the base of the society among people all genders, because increasing women leaders doesn’t just benefit women, it benefits everybody.
