Hi everybody my name is Rachel, and I am running for the role of head of Mental Health and Disability for the Female Lead Society.

Who am I?

I am reading for an MSc Crime Science at the department of Security and Crime Science, situated within the department of Engineering. I am passionate about preventing VAWG focusing on patterns of violence on the London Underground network.

As a person who is passionate about gender equality and who is knowledgeable about the impact of mental health and physical disability, I have a lived experience of the impact where all three intersect so I feel that I have a lot of experience I can use to serve you. I am a former disabled student’s officer, advocating for students with varying barriers to access in addition to being integral of creating a dedicated space to relax for those who need a quieter environment. Outside of university I am a 2x World Champion in tennis (B1 category) having had a 20 year-long span with TeamGB it is a platform I continue to use via the BRIT (British Inspiration Trust) to promote positive mental health through wellbeing activities and physical exercise. As part of my involvement as a BRIT ambassador for UCL I am planning a range of events with varying societies for mental health week - you could say I love acing social justice for students (I promise it is the only time I will use such a poor tennis pun!). I also work with Power2Inspire as an ambassador to showcase tennis in schools to students with and without disabilities to foster inclusion and teach that there are different ways of learning the same
