Election post
Hi, I’m Sasha. I’m a First Year ESPS student and would love to be Cox Captain at UCLBC!
I’ve been rowing on and off for almost 7 years now, but only in the last 2 years came to coxing after an injury, A-Levels and being 5ft3 got in the way of my rowing dreams. I’m a huge advocate for the fact that anyone can be involved in sport, regardless of how much time or energy they are able to dedicate to it! So coxing for me has been a really great way to remain involved in a sport that I’ve loved being a part of for so long despite my time out.
I’d really like to get the coxes at UCLBC integrated into the rest of the squads, no matter of their level, as well as improve the number and hopefully ability of everyone in the cox squad😊
Coxes are crucial and in huge demand in most clubs, so this is very important right now! I’d love to train and advise more coxes as the year goes on, whether rowers who’d like to convert or complete newbies to the sport who’d like to get involved.
I’m super organised, so would be capable of the organisation and coordination required of the role, I love meeting new people, and I’m always trying to learn new things about coxing and rowing, so would love to learn more alongside any novice coxes😊
I was also delighted to have worked with Women in Sport on their Big Sister project, and part of this I have been involved in content creation for them; most recently this piece about my experiences with rowing: https://big-sister.co.uk/blog/sasha-rowing
