Olivia Karp

Hello,

My name is Olivia Karp and I am a graduate student at UCL where I am taking their Global Migration masters program. I am running for the Fundraising Office Position at the Student Action for Refugees campus group. In this role I hope to increase the fundraising efforts for this student group, collaborate other student societies to raise funds and donate, along with working different projects and campaigns to help refugees in the UK.

Aishah Khan

I am interested in becoming the fundraising officer at STAR because I want to be part of a team that helps a cause I care about deeply. Time and time again, I hear about the millions of refugees across the world in need of protection for various reasons and the new difficulties such as poverty and discrimination they face even when they have succeeded in travelling to a safer country. I feel especially empathetic when I hear that many people seeking asylum are the same age as me but don’t have the same opportunities I do, because of the country they were born in. I want to make a difference, no matter how big or small to the lives of refugees and asylum seekers and becoming a fundraising officer for STAR will help me achieve that. I am hardworking and will put in the time to organise fundraising events and help raise awareness for this cause. I enjoy working as part of a team and have the key communication skills for this role. I want to gain experience and responsibility in a leadership role here at UCL. I admire STAR’s goals and impacts, especially, as a student myself, their national campaign for equal access to higher education for refugees. I would love to have the opportunity to liaise with STAR members in universities nationwide to take a step towards this goal.
