Action Tutoring

Action Tutoring is a national education charity that supports disadvantaged young people to achieve a meaningful level of academic attainment. This enables them to go on to progress in education, employment or training. Action Tutoring are always looking for volunteer tutors, either in-person or online, to support primary and secondary school pupils to increase their subject knowledge, whilst building on confidence and study skills.

Age UK Kensington & Chelsea

Age UK Kensington & Chelsea is a local charity working with and for older people. We aim to promote independence and well-being in later life, encouraging self-help and peer support. We offer a wide range of services and activities, and provide interesting opportunities for people of all ages to get involved as volunteers. Our services range from Information and Advice (benefit claim or housing) Befriending (one-to-one basis), supporting people with Dementia through our memory café & exercise for the mind groups, Shopping (taking people to their weekly shopping) IT support, Small DIY tasks (changing lightbulbs or assembling a flat pack), Chair based exercise (keeping people fit & mobile) Walking Support (to help people to recover their confidence after suffering a fall). We also provide a range of activities & events, language classes, painting & drawing, creative writing. Many of these post Covid we know run via Zoom.

Age UK Westminster

Age UK Westminister help to promote the well-being of older people in the City of Westminisiter and help make life a fulfilling and enjoyable experience within their local community. Age UK Westminister are always looking for eager and passionate volunteers to support older people whether that is through 1:1 support, a simple telephone call or helping older people get active!

British Red Cross

The British Red Cross helps people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are. They are part of a global voluntary network, responding to conflicts, natural disasters and individual emergencies. They enable vulnerable people in the UK and abroad to prepare for and withstand emergencies in their own communities.

Calthorpe Community Garden

Calthorpe is a 1.2 acre community garden near Kings Cross. We provide a wide range of services for local people including volunteering opportunities in our garden and food growing/closed loop project, early years, weekend activities for young people and a range of educational projects throughout the year. We are currently looking for community gardeners. This involves general maintenance of the garden, assisting the garden ranger with jobs such as composting, weeding, pruning, painting, collecting rubbish.

Carers UK

Carers UK's mission is to make life better for carers. We provide information and advice on caring, help carers connect with each other, campaign with carers for lasting change, and use innovation to improve services.

Caris Families

Caris Families believes no child should have their life chances threatened by family homelessness. They are a frontline charity that puts back opportunities for children living in homeless families' hostels to play, learn, socialise and have enriching experiences of the wider world. They do this through supporting them to stay emotionally and physically well, meet their developmental milestones and develop aspirations for their own futures. Caris Families also give parents the welfare support they need to keep the family resilient through their experience of homelessness and make a positive, sustainable transition out of it. Volunteers help deliver their hostel-based play club, Belmont Kids Club on Mondays and Tuesdays (Term time only) from 3.45-6.15pm.

CB Plus

CB Plus (formerly called Community Barnet) is an award-winning independent community infrastructure and development organisation working on various social issues across several London boroughs that has been running for over 40 years. We support residents, businesses and local communities, encouraging collaborative partnerships that lead to stronger and more resilient communities.

CoachBright

CoachBright works with disadvantaged secondary school pupils to help them challenge for top universities. They match pupils with a university student who provides subject specific coaching across a 10 week programme, improving their grades, confidence and work ethic. They are on a mission to tackle educational disadvantage in the UK and create independent and resilient learners.

elop

The East London Out Project (elop) provide dedicated, high-quality, user-centred, responsive and professional services to lesbian, gay, bisexual & trans (LGBT+) communities, that aim to preserve, promote & improve mental, emotional, psychological and social health, wellbeing, safety and empowerment, whilst working to challenge and eradicate discrimination and inequalities faced by LGBT+ people, and others questioning and/ or exploring their sexual orientation and/ or gender identity.

Engineers Without Borders Outreach

This Student-Led Project aims to inspire young students to love science. Engineers Without Borders Outreach holds interactive STEM workshops for primary and lower secondary students in London schools. In a 1.5-hour in-person workshop, students have the chance to learn about engineering principles, sustainable development and contemporary challenges that engineering helps to tackle, and create their own roller coasters, wind turbines or floating houses.

Family Action - City and Hackney Social Prescribing and Outreach Service

Family Action City and Hackney Social Prescribing and Outreach Service support individuals to have better access to services, connect with communities and build self-esteem and resilience. They then facilitate activate participation in local community based services, e.g. lunch clubs, gardening groups, benefits advice, exercise groups for several people including the socially isolated, those with mild to moderate mental health problems, people with long term conditions etc. Volunteers help service users in so many ways.  This could be in a befriending role offering emotional support or practical support to help them build their confidence and access different activities and services.

FoodCycle

FoodCycle’s vision is to make food poverty, loneliness and food waste a thing of the past for every community. With community dining, week in, week out we feed the hungry and give company to the lonely in our communities; providing delicious three course meals and great conversation, using food that would otherwise go to waste! We rely on great volunteers to run our meals each week, so sign up today and make a difference in your community!

IntoUniversity

IntoUniversity offers a range of innovative programmes that support young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to attain either a university place or another chosen aspiration. Volunteering with them offers experience working with young people, access to high quality training and on-going support from our enthusiastic staff team, and a chance to build leadership and communication skills.

Kenwood House

Kenwood House, English Heritage champions our historic places and advises the Government and others to help today's generation get the best out of our heritage and ensure that it is protected for future generations. Kenwood House is a former stately home in Hampstead, London, on the northern boundary of Hampstead Heath. Our volunteers include friendly and enthusiastic people that help our visitors to understand and enjoy their visit to Kenwood House, and help us to bring this magnificent site to life.

Kith & Kids

Kith & Kids are a children's charity whose aim is to empower our members and their families to develop new skills, gain greater confidence and overcome social exclusion. Our members are young adults with autism and/or learning disabilities and we need volunteers to help them have lots of fun, and challenge themselves in a host of activities throughout the year! Our programme is diverse and we have an activity to suit the interest and availability of anyone - you can join on weekends, evenings, weekdays or university holidays.

Language Café

The Student-Led Project Language Café runs interactive workshops during term time, with each session focusing on a specific subject, like a doctor's appointment and related key vocabulary. They want to expand the horizons of English for adult speakers of other languages. 

London Borough of Camden - Digital Inclusion Team

The London Borough of Camden are committed to creating a digitally inclusive Camden where no one if left behind in their journey towards a brighter and more connected future. The digital inclusuon team aim to promote digital literacy, technology adoption and digital skills among Camden residents through trained and dedicated volunteer champions. The team are seeking UCL students to volunteer their time across the borough as part of our initiative to upskill local people in digital technology.

London Nightline

London Nightline is a non-judgmental, non-advisory listening service running through the night. They’re here to chat- via a call or instant message- when other services aren't typically open. Their trained volunteers are all students from London universities, so they can support their peers in talking through mental health, academic stress, life pressures, relationships, or anything that's on their mind.

Octavia Foundation

Octavia supports people affected by ill health, social isolation, low income or unemployment in central and west London. We help over 4,400 people each year by; caring for older people through befriending and social activities, helping people into work through volunteering and training, supporting children and young people through inspirational projects and outreach work.

Over The Wall

Over The Wall provides free of charge residential activity camps to children and young people aged 8-17 affected by serious illness and their families. They give seriously ill children and their families a week of experiences that are memorable, fun, empowering, physically safe and medically sound. They require a superb group of volunteers to make all that magic happen.  

Project Access International

Project Access International aims to help students from non-traditional backgrounds get into top universities in the UK, US, and Europe. They do this through a mentorship programme where they pair upper secondary school students with student mentors from top universities who help guide their mentees through the application process. They also run other initiatives such as summer bootcamps to help boost their mentees’ chances at success. If you think passion and potential are what should define a young person’s future and would like to potentially change a young person’s life – then Project Access International are looking for you!

Ragged School Museum

The Ragged School Museum is a beautiful and unique building that once housed the largest 'Ragged School' in London. Today the museum celebrates and remembers his achievements as well as helping people gain an understanding of the Victorian East End. They mainly work with primary school children where they run fun, interactive, drama-based workshops in our reconstructed classroom and kitchen.

Raise UCL

Raise UCL is the newest chapter of Raise, a student-led movement that aims to positively impact the way students think about charitable giving. Our method is simple: we ask students to give a personally significant donation to a highly effective charity and then those who have donated can come to our Summer Party, which is fully funded through external sponsorship. They are looking for student Reps to talk to other UCL students about Raise and encourage them to donate during our donations push in February.

ReachOut

ReachOut, believe that with the right support every young person can reach their full potential. ReachOut is a mentoring charity working with children living in disadvantaged areas to raise aspirations, develop their character and build attainment. They improve self-confidence and develop Numeracy, Literacy, Communication and Memory Skills, whilst reinforcing their core character strenghts of Fairness, Self-Control, Good Judgement and Staying Power.

Real Action

Real Action is a community-led educational charity set up in 1996 to provide effective educational solutions to some of our most challenging educational problems in a neighbourhood designated as exceptionally - and multiply - disadvantaged. Real Action specialises in sourcing, developing and delivering proven-effective, structured, basic education programmes capable of transforming the lives of its clientele of children, teenagers and adults.

Rugby Portobello Trust

The Rugby Portobello Trust is a children's, youth and family support charity that has been supporting the local community for over 135 years. We provide a range of activities to help the youngest members of our community build confidence, expand their horizons and realise their potential. They do this through educational support, art sessions, music programmes, sporting activties, mental health support and much more!

Share Community

Share works with disabled people who need extra help and support to realise their dreams and aspirations. We are a centre for learning and wellbeing for adults with learning disabilities, autism, physical disabilities, and mental health needs. Our aim is to help people live independent, happy, and healthy lives, and make their own choices. We provide a holistic service, offering accredited training to help people move towards employment, and personal development courses to boost independence and help people feel more confident.

Smart Works

Smart Works is a UK charity which provides free interview preparation and clothing to unemployed women with confirmed job interviews. We provide women with the clothes, the confidence and the tools that they need to succeed at interview. We are incredibly proud that over 50% of the women we see, who we are able to contact, go on to get the job.

SolidariTee

SolidariTee is an international organisation fighting for sustainable change in the refugee “crisis” by providing grants to NGOs who work on legal aid for refugees and asylum seekers. They aim to dispel harmful misinformation about refugees and the asylum process, and raise awareness about global refugee issues on social media. Their core work takes place on regional campuses: last year they had SolidariTee regional teams at over 60 universities worldwide. The teams work to host awareness- and fundraising events on campus throughout the year, as well as to sell our unique SolidariTees. These t-shirts are a visible show of solidarity: they’re sustainably and ethically produced, and feature artwork by refugees and asylum seekers.

Solidarity Sports

Solidarity Sports aim to engage children in sports - a fun, accessible way to bring kids together and promote good health and wellness. Solidarity Sports has harnessed the transformative power of play to nurture disadvantaged children recovering from complex trauma. They support children's healing through sports, healthy eating, arts, educational trips, mentorship programmes and holidays within the UK and abroad.

St Joseph's Hospice

St Joseph’s Hospice is one of the oldest and largest hospices in the UK. They provide, high quality, specialist palliative care and support to people in our local community who have a life-limiting illness. Their services reach several boroughs within London, thus reaching a population of around 2.1 million people. All their services are free of charge and therefore require didctaed and passionate volunteers. Today they have more than 40 different roles and around 600 volunteers, working in different areas of the Hospice and in the community. Whatever your reasons to volunteer, they will find a role to suit you.

Stanley Arts

Stanley Arts is a radically inclusive space to foreground under-represented voices, providing artists of colour and LGBTQ+ creatives with a platform to reach out to audiences across South London and beyond. They aim to be one of South London’s premier arts and performace venues providing their local community with a hub for cultural expression and discovery.

Terrence Higgins Trust

Terrence Higgins Trust (THT) is the leading HIV and sexual health charity in the UK working to reduce the spread of HIV and to promote good sexual health. We campaign for greater understanding of HIV and sexual ill-health, providing services across England, Wales and Scotland. Our current strategies include working to end new transmissions of HIV in the UK by 2030, supporting people to live well with HIV, challenging the stigma associated with HIV and with poor sexual health.

The Guards Museum

The Guards Museum tell the story of the Five Regiments of Foot Guards, who have had the duty and honour of protecting the Sovereign and Royal Palaces from 1660 to the present day. Follow the proud history of these world class fighting soldiers from the English Civil War to Afghanistan, through our unique collection which stretches back over 380 years. Join their team of volunteers helping to create a warm presence in the Museum.

The Listening Place

The Listening Place is a volunteer-led London based charity aiming to transform how we support people who feel suicidal.  Our trained volunteers are part of a team delivering face-to-face, confidential, ongoing support to thousands of people each year,  They help create the warm and welcoming environment that encourages people struggling with suicidal thoughts and feelings to talk openly without being judged or given advice.  

The Literacy Pirates

The Literacy Pirates are an innovative educational charity supporting young people aged 9-13 to develop the literacy, confidence and perseverance that will help them achieve both in school and the world beyond. As a volunteer, you'll be supporting the young people we work with (AKA the Young Pirates!) as they collaborate with professionals to publish their writing in the form of storybooks, studio recordings and films which are premiered in a local cinema. 

The Romanian and Eastern European Hub

The Romanian and Eastern European Hub is a service designed to support the Romanian community both in London and more widely across the UK. With their staff and volunteers they offer support in Romanian to those needing help due to language, digital and cultural barriers. They support users in main ways but mainly through accessing health services, English class referrals, school registration, food bank referrals etc.

The Sapphire Employability and Wellbeing Academy

The Sapphire Employability and Wellbeing Academy have over 5 years experience working in Islington, Hackney, Camden, Southwark, Lewisham, Greenwich and Lambeth. They have worked with over 5000 young people and families till date especially those from minority and disadvantaged backgrounds. They aim to equip young people to not only be their best version of themselves but also inspire them to have a genuine insight of what they would like to pursue in the near future The sole purpose of The Sapphire Foundation is to build people up. Moreover, to ensure that each individual finds what they are meant to do in life. We aim to provide a platform and pathway for young people all over the world find their callings.

Tutor The Nation

Tutor The Nation is a charity that makes education fairer, one tutoring session at a time. They pair dedicated volunteers with disadvantaged state school pupils to provide free, online tuition with the aim of helping tutees to develop the skills and confidence they need to achieve their goals.

UCL Marrow

UCL Marrow is a Student-Led Project that works alongside the charity Anthony Nolan to help save the lives of people with blood cancer by signing people onto the stem cell register. For various reasons, young people make the best donors – with a real chance of saving a life. Their goals are: 1. To raise awareness of the importance of signing onto the register at UCL. 2. Sign students between the ages of 16-30 onto the stem cell register. 3. Fundraise for Anthony Nolan as signing people onto the register costs the charity a total of £40 per person. 4. Bust myths! People often think this is a painful process (not true!) and unaware that there’s a 1 in 100 chance they would ever donate. 

UCL Urban Room Volunteering

The Student-Led Project UCL Urban Room is looking for volunteers to help out with exhibitions and projects at the UCL Pool St campus in Stratford! This will give students interested in the creative industry an outlook into the operations of exhibitions, while also engaging with the neighbouring community of East London, bridging the gap between UCL Urban Room and the public.

UCL We Are Donors

UCL We Are Donors is a Student-Led Project that aims to increase awareness about the blood, tissue and organ donor crisis in the UK, which has been exacerbated by the difficulties posed by COVID-19. They want to promote donation by simplifying the donor process and making it less intimidating, especially for young people & students. They organise a combination of workshops and talks for public school and UCL students and to publish resource packs with all the information and guidelines donors and recipients may need. 

University College London Hospitals

University College London Hospitals aim to improve the patient experience within the UCLH hospitals group by providing a wide variety of non-clinical services, and to offer volunteers the opportunity of experiencing hospital life in an internationally renowned acute and specialist care NHS Trust. At UCLH giving your time helps make a big difference to our patients’ lives. Having volunteers enables us to do more, whether that is time spent with patients, or helping give our teams extra capacity.

Youth Fundraisers UCL

Youth Fundraisers UCL is a recenlty launched Student-led Volunteer Programme which aims to send teams of UCL volunteers to state schools within London to help faciliate secondary school children launch their own fundraising projects. These fundraising projects will have the specific aim of raising money through various ways for education and students in deprived areas.
