Challenge yourself to reach a total of 310,000 steps in August!

Did you know that on average people take 3,000-4,000 steps a day, but the recommended amount is 10,000 (Heart Research UK) Join Project Active in our Summertime Step Challenge to reach your 10,000 steps a day goal in August!

Walking is a free activity which can help aid in becoming healthier. Reaching your 10,000 steps does not mean that you have to walk for hours, but challenging yourself to increase steps and the speed can support you in reaching your recommended exercise (NHS)

Staying motivated:

  • Make sure you have appropriate and comfortable footwear whilst walking
  • Use the stairs instead of the lift to get those extra steps in!
  • Go for walks with friends, family and Project Active Walking Groups! 
  • Park your car further away or get off at the tube/bus stop earlier to allows you to get those additional steps
  • Encourage your UCL friends, colleagues and peers to join!

Those that complete Project Active Summertime Steps Challenge will receive a digital certificate, and you'll automatically be put into our prize draws to win a Project Active goody bag. 

How to get involved: 

  1. Download the Playwaze app on the App Store or the Play Store 
  2. Click register to create an account
  3. Either click on 'Find my community' or search by and type in 'UCL Active'.
  4. If you are a student, please fill in your details. If you are a staff member, please click 'I am not a participant'.
  5. Click on the 'Project Active Summertime Steps Challenge' and click 'Join the challenge'.
  6. Link your fitness tracker
  7. Upload evidence: Photos of you completing the challenge or screenshot of the route you took using a Strava, Kamoot or another app
