Are you looking to inspire young people and help them reach their full potential? If so then the Routes2Success programme is perfect for you. Join our team of dedicated ethnic minority Role Models & Mentors and help make a change. Our Role Models & Mentors deliver workshop sessions in schools and other youth organisations which are aimed at boosting the aspirations, employability…
Description

Routes2Success is a role model and mentoring programme aimed at supporting young people aged 10-24 from ethnic minority backgrounds. Young people are provided with positive role models from similar backgrounds who will support them with careers advice, entrepreneurial skills, making positive choices and guidance to overcome obstacles.

We are looking for new Role Models, who have experience in navigating the difficult educational landscape, and we believe that UCL students fit this criteria perfectly!

We tailor our workshops delivered by our volunteer role models to inspire young people to think practically about the best way to realise their full potential in education and employment and equip them with tools to manage their social, emotional and behavioural difficulties.

Duties

Our Role Models will deliver workshops, where they share their personal journey and aim to inspire young people. You will work closely with a group of 6-12 young people, alongside another Role Model who will co-deliver the sessions with you. There is also the opportunity for individual mentoring with selected participants in the initial workshop sessions that need it most. Individual mentoring would see you have 1-1 sessions with a young person, where you can really focus on helping them with their personal development.

Before you deliver any sessions, you will have the opportunity to shadow one of our existing role models whilst they deliver a workshop session. You will be constantly supported by our team, who will be on hand during your sessions and throughout the week should you need anything.

Who will the volunteers be working with?
Our Role Models work with young people aged 10-24, who need support in raising their aspirations and overall life outcomes.
Training
All of our Role Models complete a thorough safeguarding course before they work in any school. The cost of this is covered by us and it is compulsory to attend.

Time commitment

We ask for our Role Models to try and commit to 6-12 sessions per year.
Workshops are delivered over the course of three weekly sessions, with each session lasting 90 minutes.
Sessions are typically during school hours as the majority of sessions take place in schools.

This organisation is one of our community partner organisations.

Like all volunteer recruiters we work with, they have signed up to our service standards, agreeing to abide by our policy on partnership working to keep you safe and supported whilst you volunteer.

You’ll never be out of pocket for volunteering through us – with in-London travel expenses to and from your volunteering guaranteed.
