Idea for research
Idea for research
The New Black Film Collective, a community organization dedicated to promoting Black film and education, seeks to address the pressing issue of pay equality and career progression for Black teachers in Newham. This research project aims to investigate strategies to effectively tackle this issue, engaging with various stakeholders and amplifying the voices of Black teachers. We would like to address the following research question: "What strategies can effectively address pay and equality for Black teachers in Newham?"

The research will employ both quantitative and qualitative methods, primarily through interviews with Black teachers from primary and secondary schools in Newham. Individual outreach to schools will be conducted to gather diverse perspectives. Here are a couple of the research outcomes that we are considering:
(1) Policy Recommendations: The research findings will inform policy recommendations for Newham schools and potentially beyond, aiming to address pay equality and career progression issues.
(2) Educational Game Design: Based on the research insights, a game will be designed to educate teachers on pay structures and disseminate the research findings. This game could involve elements where participants pick up cards with explanations or engage in interactive activities.
(3) Ethnographic Film: An ethnographic film will be produced to document the experiences and aspirations of Black teachers in Newham regarding pay equality and career progression.
Impact of idea
(1) Policy Recommendations: The research will provide evidence-based policy recommendations aimed at fostering pay equality and career progression for Black teachers, benefiting not only individual educators but also the broader education system.
(2) Wellbeing Implications: Addressing pay equality and career progression issues can improve the overall wellbeing within schools, benefiting both teachers and students by creating a more equitable and supportive environment.
