UCL Dance Society run a fantastic Student-Led Project: Dance It!. They aim to spread the society’s love for dance to communities, by giving them the opportunity to get acquainted with various dance styles. This year, the Project headed to Holborn Community Association, offering to its members sessions of different dance styles with a new choreographer every week.

Last Wednesday, I had the unique chance of photographing one of these dance sessions: a salsa class. I arrived at a peaceful, tranquil place, decorated with lively artwork created by children: paintings, crafts, ceramics and garlands. The people who greeted me were as friendly and warming as the place itself. Although initially the space looked quit, it was soon transformed into a dance floor. I have no words to describe the joy - and the courage - that the initially hesitant community members gradually received by participating in the salsa session. Perhaps the photos speak for themselves!

The session took place at one of the centres of the Holborn Community Association, a vital part of the local community for over 30 years.  The association runs a range of sport, play and art activities for everyone from 0-99+ years of age.

Participants to the workshops are also given free tickets to enjoy the society’s biggest event of the year: the Dance Society Annual Show 2019, taking place at the Bloomsbury Theatre on 7, 8 and 9 of March. The Bloomsbury Show is centred around a unique theme every year and this year’s theme is ILLUSION. To support their amazing dance and their spirit of philanthropy, don’t miss this unique show.
