King's nudge ahead in the London Varsity

With just five fixtures remaining in this year’s London Varsity Series, all eyes are now turning to the Fencing and Rugby Clubs who have yet to meet King’s. There are a total of 13 fixtures, and so far the score is KCLSU 5 - 4 UCLU.

We’re getting ready to welcome back Varsity

Varsity is a great tradition where historically the rugby teams of King’s College London Students’ Union (KCLSU) and University College London Union (UCLU) have come together to compete with friendly rivalry and bags of passion. We were just as disappointed as many of you that we couldn’t bring you a Varsity event in 2013. But true to our word Varsity will be back in March 2014 – Bigger than ever before!

A runaway night of success puts UCLU back in the running for Varsity

UCLU Men’s Basketball narrowly miss out on a win

UCL proved dominant in the first half of the game, but King’s were able to turn up the heat in the inaugural Men’s Basketball Varsity as they claimed a close 36-30 victory.

UCL opened up the scoring campaign, but KCL were always on the chase, equalising 2-2 then 5-5. It was tipped to be a UCL victory as King’s compete in BUCS’ third division, whilst UCL are up in BUCS Premiership South. However, this proved to be a much tighter affair than predicted.

And the Varsity sports are ...

Hockey, Taekwondo, Netball, Waterpolo, Muay Thai, Fencing and Rugby!

The rough programme of the London Varsity Series is Men’s and Women’s Hockey, Men’s and Women’s Taekwondo, Netball, Men’s and Women’s Waterpolo, Men’s and Women’s Muay Thai, Men’s and Women’s Medics Hockey, Men’s and Women’s Fencing, and Men’s and Women’s Rugby. The final programme will depend on venue availability, budget, risk assessments and club conduct.

Teams gear up for Varsity

UCLU men’s and women’s rugby teams will meet their opposing teams from King’s College this evening during this year’s Varsity showdown at the Twickenham Stoop.

Defending their 2011 victory, UCLU Women’s Rugby captain Eleanor Trezise commented that, “We’ve had a fantastic season so far - our best yet in fact - and with King’s women’s side looking stronger than ever too we look forward to a tougher match than last year with the best team coming out on top”.

Taekwondo victory narrows Varsity margin

In a nine-fight competition, UCLU Taekwondo overcame King’s winning five fights to their four and adding another point to the Varsity total, narrowing the gap to just one point with four fixtures remaining on Thursday and Friday.

The breakdown of fight results are as follows:

Varsity 2017 - UCLU Muay Thai are Victorious

On Saturday the 11th of March, the Spartan battle of the century commenced at Somers Town Community Centre. No, I’m not talking about Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather, I’m talking about something better; the London Varsity Series 2017. On that fateful day, five of UCLU Muay Thai’s most hardened warriors went to war with fighters of Kings Muay Thai society.

Squads named for UCLU Hockey starting London Varsity Series this evening

UCLU Hockey Club face their inaugural participation in the London Varsity Series this evening when both the women’s and men’s teams take on their counterparts from King’s College London.

Both the women’s and men’s teams are doing well in their respective leagues this year. The Women’s first team has topped their league, and has already beaten King’s in a LUSL meeting this year, while the Men’s first team has secured a promotion to the BUCS top division for the first time.

The London Varsity- Statement

After a period of consultation between UCL Union and KCLSU it is with regret that the decision has been made not to go ahead with the traditional rugby matches between UCL and KCL under the banner of The London Varsity as a result of incidents and behaviour at the 2012 event.

Representatives from both institutions have taken this decision in an attempt to protect the safety of the student body and the reputation of both Unions.

The London Varsity Series 2015 is here!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year and it’s coming back round again. The annual London Varsity Series is returning with a brand new line up. UCLU will be facing their King’s rivals across 12 sports in world class venues, including the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
