What Benefits will your Students Gain from Volunteering?
Volunteering is a big part of the culture at UCL. Volunteering can: -
- help students to feel more settled in London and at UCL.
- introduce students to new people and new experiences
- improve students wellbeing
- support students to develop new skills
- enhance students experience of their degree
- help students to develop useful skills
- improve students self-confidence
We can work with your department to support your students into volunteering. Here’s how we can help: -
Provide you with Updates on Co-curricular Volunteering Opportunities
We have plenty of volunteering roles on offer that will give students new perspectives on their academic studies. We regularly advertise new opportunities and send them to relevant departments on our mailing list. If you sign up to our mailing list, you will be kept up-to-date with volunteering roles relevant to students from your department.
Deliver Departmental Talks to your Students
We deliver talks about volunteering in departments throughout the year. These talks are focused on how volunteering can support students personal and professional development and outline the different ways that they can get involved.
Support your Student to Develop their Leadership Skills
Our Student-Led Volunteering Programme enables UCL students to organise and run their own community outreach projects across London. Many of these projects have sprung up from UCL’s academic departments and faculties. For example, Citizenship & Crime, Mathomaniacs, Meducate and Schools Book Club were set up by students in Laws, Maths, Medicine and English respectively. We provide support, advice, training and funding, and can help new student groups put their ideas into action. Students can submit a proposal for an outreach project that they would like to deliver in partnership with our team.

Connecting you with London’s Voluntary and Community Sector
More broadly, if you’d like to involve London’s voluntary and community sector with any aspects of your teaching, then please do get in touch. We have formal links with different charities and community organisations, and regularly send out requests to collaborate from UCL colleagues.
Get in touch, if you would like to access any of our services and work with us to encourage your students to get involved in volunteering.
