I stood for election because I spent the last 3 years of my degree involved in a range of activities at UCL, from cultural societies to captaining a football team. Activities played such an important role in my uni experience and I want to make sure they're the best they can possibly be.
This year Coronavirus has shaken up the world, but I want to make sure that our clubs and societies have the best resources to make the most of the situation and engage their communities as well as possible, whether that be online or in person.

Projects & Priorities
- Students have better physical activities in great community spaces to promote a healthier lifestyle and better wellbeing.
-
I will do this by...
- campaigning to save the swimming pool (Malet Street), or lobby UCL for new facilities to replace those lost;
- lobbying the Provost and other key stakeholders on securing sporting facilities and space for our sports clubs, recreation physical activities and elite athletes; in particular opportunities with UCL East;
- lobbying UCL to invest in the best possible solution for new sports grounds
21/01
- Work on buying sports ground for better outdoor sports facilities for field based sports. Consultants did a lot of research on sports grounds across London. Katie, John and I viewed a few. We are working with estates to target one as our main priority, Raynes Park.
- Campaign to save all student facilities in student central building
- Looking at making sure there is lots of sports facilities to connect UCL East with Bloomsbury. Tennis and hockey centre partnership to be made
- Progress made with Lee Valley over UCL East sports facilities, looking to get some funding information in late January and will spend the next few months convincing UCL management to fund the project. Still awaiting result of listing application for ULU Pool and building. Trying to launch feasibility study for UCL to purchase sports ground within 35 minutes away from campus.
24/02
- Historic England listing application was rejected for the ULU Pool, but we are planning to object them in planning permission. Paper on sports ground was bypassed CESB and is being discussed at Estates Management committee, which should speed up progress. UCL East LVT&HC partnership meetings still ongoing, good options.
08/04
- On the sports ground, UCL have sent a formal expression of interest of the ground in Raynes park. We are constantly seeking out new information from estates as they are building relationships with the owners and trying to get a good deal. I have told the Provost that this has gone on for way too long and UCL just needs to get on with it and he said he will chase it up. There is another party interested in the ground so we are trying to get this deal done ASAP. We are still working on the next steps of the Tennis and Hockey centre near UCL East and making sure that we have an aligned vision with UCL Sports Science so that we are set up for the future when we need the investment from UCL.
ONGOING
- Students have a great programme of activities and events to have fun, learn things, make friends and connections and build communities as a global citizen.
-
I will achieve this by...
- encouraging and support clubs and societies to hold in-person activities and events;
- ensuring clubs and societies have access to financial support and grants to support their activities;
- working with the Activities Team to ensure that training and processes are thorough and clear to support clubs and societies with their activities;
- supporting the welcome events programme to give students a great welcome to UCL.
21/01
- January Welcome Fair had to be cancelled due to Covid, clubs and societies continue to put on a fortune of events amid Covid concerns. Have managed to get UCL to agree to international travel for our clubs. Have also managed to prevent UCL putting extra restrictions that are not mandated by law to our clubs and societies.
08/04
- We have been supporting lots of events in the final few weeks of term, and now the shift and focus has gone on to putting on an amazing awards celebration event to recognise the amazing achievements of all students.
ONGOING
- Student Officers are empowered and supported to have a greater sense of achievement in improving the student co-curricular experience, ensuring their communities are represented.
-
I will do this by...
- meeting with the Arts, Societies, Sports and Community Relations Officers regularly together and individually to discuss their plans and support,
- building a strong Activities Executive to support our clubs and societies.
21/01
- Very good discussions at Activities Zone. Supporting Student Officers as much as I can and utilising their input in as much as possible.
08/04
- Constantly engaging Student Officers in disciplinaries and Activities Zone, and encouraged 2 to stand for Sabbatical Officer election. 1 of them was successful.
ONGOING
- Students are engaged in co-curricular activities that benefit their educational experience and recognise the skills they develop which prepare them for the world.
-
I will achieve this by...
- engaging with the education strategy to ensure a strong focus on co-curricular activities with students and the SU being at the heart of it;
- ensuring the co-curricular offer extends to UCL East;
- trying to get as many Departmental Societies involved with union activity as possible.
21/01
- Starting to work on global engagement and how we use the new strategy. Supporting volunteering service and approving as many student led projects as possible.
ONGOING
- Students have greater confidence and are proud that we are sustainable and are inspired to be more sustainable themselves.
-
I will do this by ensuring all clubs and societies use sustainable suppliers for their clothing.
21/01
- Making sure sports clubs all buy their kits from sustainable suppliers.
ONGOING
- In-person graduation
-
Worked with UCL CAM and others to get a better deal for all graduates in the future, and to ensure that all graduates from the past 2 years have a reasonable graduation ceremony in-person with the walk across stage moment.
21/01
- Catch-up graduations are going ahead this March amid Covid concerns. Have been making sure it’s a great experience for all. New venue closer to campus secured for future graduations.
24/02
- Graduation ticket price reduced from 45 to 35. Catch-up cohorts are graduating and future cohort graduations will be announced shortly. SU involvement has increased. Precedent set for future officer to be involved in all graduation steering group meetings.
08/04
- Priority has now shifted to future graduations and making sure that as IOE has been chosen for the venue, that students get a great experience at a good price and are not hard done by. There has been some changes to the graduation team so I am building new connections again.
