What would you like the Union to do?
The Union should RSVP media societies to all meetings that are open to students, including Union Executive and Policy Zone meetings. The Union should also send a copy of the agenda to media societies beforehand, and the minutes and voting record (if applicable) after the meeting.
Why would you like to do this?
Proper media scrutiny of the Union's democratic processes is vital for a healthy and engaging student democracy. Greater transparency of these processes, including making clear when and where meetings occur and having a copy of the agenda in advance and the minutes after, will assist media societies in carrying out this key role.
How will this affect students?
Greater transparency of the Union's democratic processes will ensure that our elected representatives are properly scrutinised and raise awareness of those processes. Having robust student media societies reporting about the SU will ultimately increase student engagement with Union electoral politics
