Ever wondered how a poem’s form can shape the way it speaks? Join the English Society for a two-part poetry writing workshop exploring the beautiful possibilities of poetic structure.

We’ll begin with a close reading of a poem with an intriguing form, unpacking the ways its rhyme scheme, rhythm, syllable count, and other formal choices shape its meaning. Then, in the second half, it’s your turn to experiment! Using the form we’ve explored, you’ll have the chance to write your own poem, play with language, and discover what happens when creativity meets constraint.
