GenSoc Monthly Journal Club is back!

👩‍🔬 Presented by Marie — PhD Student, Centre of Life’s Origins and Evolution (CLOE), GEE

Our PhD presenter, Marie, has been studying at UCL since her undergraduate in Biological Sciences (Cell Biology). She’ll talk about her experience working as a research technician before applying, and what it has been like conducting research across different model organisms, including fruit flies, sea urchins, and flatworms. Her work spans multiple fields such as frontotemporal dementia, development, and evolutionary developmental biology (evo-devo).

Marie will then introduce her current PhD project, where she uses single-cell transcriptomics and electron microscopy to characterise sensory cell types in flatworm larvae at both the gene expression and morphological level 🐛🐛

Here's what you can look forward to!

  • 🔬 Hear directly from a PhD researcher about cutting-edge techniques used in developmental and evolutionary biology (evo-devo)
  • 🧪 Learn how different model organisms are used to uncover gene expression and cell morphology in early development
  • 💬 Ask your questions about PhD life, postgraduate study, and research careers during our interactive Q&A

This event forms part of our broader focus on evo-devo genetics  this month. The Genetics Journal Club runs every two weeks, featuring researchers from across UCL and beyond to help you explore key areas of genetics.

We hope to see you there!
