Opportunity: Outreach Community Facilitator

The Age UK Camden, Outreach Service, is part of the
*Ageing Better in Camden* Lottery Funded programme
which aims to empower and support older people in
Camden to make the most of later life. The
Outreach Service proactively meets and engages with
older people out in the community, providing low level support and encouragement to access activities and to connect with peers. In addition to street
outreach, the service also engages with older people
in residential settings including sheltered housing. In
addition to signposting people on to local activities at
community centres, the Outreach Service hosts pop
up events and supports small groups of people to
socialise or enjoy activities where they live. For
example supporting a group of older people in a
housing estate to meet for a weekly coffee
morning or residents of a sheltered housing scheme to access a seated exercise activity in their residents lounge.

Opportunity: Community Connector

  • Older people can lose their connections with friends and their community. They can stop doing the things they enjoy, including the hobbies and activities that keep their mind and body active.
  • In this role, you’ll work with an older person to help them identify what activities they would like to do, you’ll research these activities with our support and accompany the older person to help them settle in. You might go with your older person to ballroom dancing, play indoor bowls, join a knit and natter social group : whatever they’d like to try.
  • Once the connections have been made we’ll match you with another older person so you’ll have the opportunity to support someone else in their journey to independence.
