Age UK Camden aims to promote the well-being of all older people in the London borough of Camden and to help make later life a fulfilling and enjoyable experience. We provide a wide range of services and projects that aim to support people in later life, including those that are the most vulnerable and isolated.
Description
Many older people in Camden experience social isolation and loneliness. Our Telefriends volunteers offer older people companionship and company over the phone.
In this role you will:
- Make a regular weekly telephone call of up to half an hour to an older person with whom you have been matched
- Provide conversation and company
- Spend time chatting with the older person, talking with them about their current and past life experiences
- Provide feedback on your conversations to our coordinator as required
- Make our coordinator aware of any emerging issues or concerns that the older person has agreed to be shared with us.
Duties
- Agree to call the older person at a time agreed with them and us. Our volunteers call at times between 10.00 – 18.00, Monday-Sunday
- Put aside that time to make the call free from distractions
- Make this weekly commitment with consistency and reliability
