UCL's Largest Martial Arts Club & Reigning Varsity Champions

Muay Thai is known as ‘the art of eight limbs’, incorporating fists, elbows, knees, and shins, making it the most effective and exciting combat sport on offer at UCL.

We offer training from a renowned coach based at the world famous Bloodline Gym: Phil Casper – a World, Intercontinental, European, British and English champion! (also UCL's Coach of the Year in 2023).

We are two-time nominees for the UCL Club of the Year award, and won this award in 2024 for our club atmosphere, participation levels, competitive success, lively social scenes, our inter-university fight night 'UFN IX' and our Fighter Sponsorship Scheme, in which we sponsored 5 of our members to train at a professional muay thai gym!

Get fit, gain confidence, make new friends, and experience one of the most effective disciplines of martial arts. We have regular competition opportunities throughout term 2 and socials throughout the year- karaoke nights, Thai meals, live fights, a summer tour, Sports Night (of course!) and collaborations with other UCL clubs and societies.

We are the current London Varsity Champions, taking the title in 2024 with two massive TKOs against King’s - and defending it in 2025 with a hard-fought 3–2 win.

So if you are a keen fighter already, want to learn some self-defence or just want to get into shape in the most fun way possible - join us at our trainings!

FAQs:

How much does it cost to join UCL Muay Thai? What does the membership fee cover?

It costs £35 for a membership. This fee covers insurance, venue hire and allows us to buy more equipment or subsidise events for the club.

Can I attend a session if I am a UCL Alumni or from another university?

No, you cannot. Unfortunately, the visiting/affiliate membership no longer applies to this club following changes that have been made to the UCL Students' Union website.

I’m having problems with the website and can’t see to buy a membership or a ticket!

Unfortunately, this is a problem with the SU website and we cannot solve it. Please email [email protected]

How do I get tickets?

Tickets can be purchased on the SU website and are released the week before at midday (12:00 GMT).

What should I expect from a training session at UCL Muay Thai?

The training session will consist of a warm up (running/skipping followed by some stretches), shadow boxing, combination drills (either on pads or with a partner) and some conditioning to end the session!

What should I bring to training?

You don’t need to bring anything except a water bottle! We will provide pads, some gloves and shin pads to training sessions. If you have them, we do recommend to bring your own wraps gloves and shin pads for hygiene purposes.

For Sparring, you will need to bring a mouthguard and a groin guard. However, if you have them, we recommend bringing your own wraps, gloves and shin pads for hygiene purposes.
