Visiting or Associate Membership of Students’ Union UCL is open to a number of parties who wish to gain access to some of the fantastic facilities and services available to Students’ Union members.

Membership can gain you access to a range of services, including clubs and societies, sport, volunteering, our wide range of cafes and bars etc. Please download our Visiting Membership Guide for more information.

Please remember Students’ Union UCL is primarily for UCL students and although we welcome visiting and associate members we cannot offer membership to everyone, nor full membership services to those who are accepted. Please check your eligibility and conditions of membership below before applying.

Visiting Membership

Usually a student member of another Higher Education College or University Students’ Union. However, Affiliate students studying at UCL for a short period of time, or UCL students taking part in the Year in Industry scheme before registering at UCL, are also eligible.

Please remember to upload proof of status e.g. valid college ID card or enrolment confirmation when applying.

If a student at another Higher Education college, you’ll need to get a recommendation from a UCL club or society president before application. You can contact them via email on our clubs and societies directory.

If you are temporarily studying at UCL or a student at one of our partnership colleges* you do not need to submit a recommendation.

Associate Membership

Associate membership has the same privileges as visiting membership but is only for UCL graduates, UCL staff, Students’ Union staff and fellows of UCL.

Please remember to upload proof of status e.g. graduation certificate, valid staff ID card etc. when applying.


In addition to the normal union rules and regulations we expect all our members to abide by, there are additional conditions that apply to visiting and associate members:

  • Visiting/Associate Members are not allowed to represent UCL in competitive sport (this is including, but not limited to, BUCS & LUSL competitions)
  • Visiting/Associate Members are not allowed to hold office/a committee position with Students’ Union UCL or its affiliated clubs or societies
  • Visiting/Associate Members are not allowed to vote in any Students’ Union UCL or club/society elections.
  • Visiting/Associate Members cannot take lead roles in our theatre and music productions.

Membership Fees

Rates for Visiting or Associate Membership of the Union are as follows:

£25.00 per year (Start date from 1st September. Expires 31 August each year)

£15.00 for three months (Start date from date of payment. Expires after three months or 31 August each year – whichever is sooner)

The fee is for union membership only. It does not cover membership fee to individual club or societies.
