Join us for a saree workshop that dives into the saree’s history and the stories it carries. This isn’t just about draping. It’s about stories of resistance, celebration, adornment, and joy — and about decolonising the saree by reclaiming it as something that lets us feel free, playful, and fully ourselves. This workshop is for queer folk, and we’ll centre the voices and experiences of our queer BIPOC communities throughout.

You’ll try a few simple drapes and feel how the saree can open up new ways of moving and expressing gender. We’ll explore how queer and trans communities have used the saree to challenge norms, claim space, and create joy. We’ll also reflect on respectful connection and how people who aren’t South Asian can engage with the saree with care. Sarees will be provided and you are also welcome to bring your own.

About the Artist:
Manju is an artist, activist, and storyteller dedicated to sharing queer South Asian histories. As a member of the Club Kali working group and founding co‑ordinator of Swagatham, she works at the intersection of culture, identity, and social change. She recently draped mannequins for Queer Britain’s new installations and finds joy in quirky styling, playful adornment, and fluid movement — and will guide you in exploring the saree as an act of expression, connection, and celebration.
