Who are we?
We are the Students' Union LGBTQ+ Students' Network, a group ran by students and for students. The Network aims to support lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, and/or any other marginalised gender or sexual identities, including but not limited to asexual, queer, and intersex students. The Network is convened by the LGBQ+ Officers, Anji (they/them) and Danilo (he/him), and supported by their committee.
The LGBTQ+ Network is closely related to and collaborates with the Trans Network. Trans* students are encouraged to join both networks and enjoy the support and events of both networks.
Our Network...
- Hosts a variety of events for LGBTQ+ students, such as quiz nights, crafternoons, and parties.
- Provides assistance and information to LGBTQ+ students.
- Campaigns for and raises awareness about LGBTQ+ issues.
- Helps LGBTQ+ students meet likeminded individuals.
- Works closely with societies and charities to put on social events, campaign, and provide volunteering opportunities.
- Where can I find your events?
All of our events are tagged LGBTQ+ in the What's On Calendar - all events will also be advertised on our WhatsApp group, which you can join here.
- What does the + Mean?
The plus recognises that there are more identities within the LGBTQ+ community that are not named in the acronym. For instance, the + includes the asexual spectrum, pansexual, and aromantic folks!
- Why is the 'T' separate in some cases?
You may find at times that the 'T' is absent from the acronym. This is because we also have a Trans Network that we work in collaboration with. When the Trans Network was created, the T was initially removed from the acronym, though it was later readded because trans people are included in the LGBTQ+ community.
