Hi everyone! Welcome to our first academic event at SRI Society.
We are going to talk about something that has become part of almost everyone’s university experience: artificial intelligence. Have you ever used ChatGPT to explain a difficult theory, brainstorm an essay, or even help you finish an assignment? Perhaps you’ve also wondered whether using AI makes learning easier or whether it sometimes makes us think less for ourselves.
And that brings us to our big question: Is AI making us smarter, or making us think less? And Our debate motion is: universities should embrace GenAI rather than restrict it.
On one hand, AI can make information more accessible, support students with different learning enquiries, and help us develop new skills. On the other hand, it raises questions about academic integrity, independent thinking, and whether everyone has equal access to these tools. But we are not just here to decide whether AI is good or bad. We want to explore what AI means for education, inequality, and the way we learn and work together as a society.
So don’t worry if you’re not an AI expert, and don’t worry if you haven’t prepared any arguments. This is a space to share opinions, challenge ideas, and perhaps even change your mind.
Let’s find out what everyone thinks!
