When we think about rebuilding Ukraine, we often think about governments, international organisations and aid. But what about the people, businesses and communities working across borders?
For the first event of the SRI Research Series, join us for an interactive conversation with Dr Roch Dunin-Wąsowicz exploring his ongoing research into the transnational networks supporting Ukraine.
His research examines businesses and entrepreneurs in Britain and Poland who have supported Ukraine since the full-scale invasion of 2022, alongside Ukrainian diaspora communities that are simultaneously supporting Ukraine and helping Ukrainians build lives abroad.
Rather than a traditional lecture, Beyond Borders will be a conversational session where you can engage directly with the research, ask questions and contribute your own perspectives.
What will we explore?
How can businesses and entrepreneurs contribute to rebuilding a country? What role can diaspora communities play in shaping the future of their homeland? How do networks spanning different countries create resilience during conflict? And ultimately, who gets to shape what reconstruction looks like?
Whether you study sociology, politics, international relations, economics, business, geography or something completely different, no prior knowledge is needed. If you’re curious about how research can help us understand some of the biggest issues happening in the world right now, this event is for you.
Introducing the SRI Research Series
The SRI Research Series brings students face-to-face with researchers working on fascinating questions about society today.
We’re taking research beyond journals and lecture slides and turning it into a conversation. Each event gives students the opportunity to discover ongoing research, meet academics, challenge ideas and ask the questions they actually want answered.
No lecture. No prior knowledge required. Just interesting research, big questions and genuine conversation.
